National Carillon 40th Aniversary Print E-mail

The National Carillon is 40!

On 26 April 1970 Queen Elizabeth II accepted the National Carillon, a gift from the British Government, on behalf of Australia. Over the following 40 years it has become a national icon and a symbol of Canberra.

Join the celebrations this April

Tours of the instrument

  • All tours are fully booked

Sunday Picnic at the Carillon

  • Sunday 11 April, 12pm to 3pm
  • Bring a picnic or purchase food and drink onsite

  • Wednesdays and Sundays, 12.30pm

The National Carillon is located on Aspen Island, Lake Burley Griffin. Access is from Wendouree Drive off Constitution Avenue or the north-bound land of Kings Avenue. There is no car access off Parkes Way.
